Role at Paul Beare
Business Development & Chartered Accountant.
Cultivating new partnerships and intimately supporting high-growth businesses in the APAC region to expand into the UK.
Past experience
I started my career at PwC where I qualified as a Chartered Accountant. I subsequently found a passion for start-ups hence I’ve spent the last 7 years of my career in the finance function of various high-growth start-ups (SaaS and biotech). Over half of that tenure has been in leadership roles and twice as a first finance hire tasked to build the finance function from the ground up. I have been involved with capital raising, M&A initiatives, ERP implementations, and setting up/leading finance functions globally (New Zealand, Australia, UK, France, North America and most of South East Asia and Greater China).
Benefits of working at PB Ltd
PB’s approach to client services is built on integrity and wanting the best for the businesses that we partner with. I can attest to this as a former client of PB! This makes the work we do meaningful and rewarding.
What are the values that drive you?
In line with my favourite quote, curiosity and authenticity are the values that drive me. Curiosity in terms of wanting to explore new things, be it cultures, experiences or even process improvements from a work perspective. Authenticity in terms of always being true to who you are in any situation.
What are your top 2 favourite podcasts/books?
I’m very interested in investing and managing personal finances so one of my favourite podcasts is ‘Cheques and Balances’ which is run a by a team in New Zealand and they have meaningful discussions about those topics. My favourite book is ‘Sapiens’ which provides a history of humankind – it is fascinating to understand humanity (albeit from someone’s perspective) and why we are the way we are socially, professionally etc.
Name your two favourite places in London and why?
Having been based primarily in the APAC region, I’m yet to find my favourite places in London! However, I thoroughly enjoyed walking around the Notting Hill and Westminster areas of London during my last visit. Walking is always the best way to explore a city and certainly in London there is plenty to see around every corner!
What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?
Gym to unwind and travel to experience new cultures.
Other fun facts about me:
Secret Talent: I’ve competed in powerlifting and achieved a 3 times bodyweight deadlift (one caveat is that this actually isn’t that impressive in the powerlifting community!). I’m also a qualified personal trainer.
Bucket List: Driving a Formula car (either the F4 experience at the Red Bull Ring or F1 experience at the Dubai Autodrome).
Top City To Visit: Sapporo (in winter) – I’ve always enjoyed Japan’s blend of ancient traditions and modern advancements and even more so in Sapporo when it transforms into a winter wonderland during December-March.
